Descale Nespresso

Descaling your Nespresso on a regular basis is necessary and makes your coffee a lot tastier. Limescale builds up in every Nespresso machine over time. This is caused by the lime particles in the water. Limescale causes the device to operate at a lower efficiency. Energy consumption also increases and defects occur more quickly.

Hard water

You can easily notice limescale deposits in a difference in taste, reduced heat or a hazy color of your cup of coffee. Some Nespresso machines need to be descaled earlier than others. This depends on the hardness of the water. The 'harder' the water, the more often you need to descale the Nespresso machine. Water softener.com explains how to descale your appliance and how to prevent limescale deposits in the future.

Descale your Nespresso in 5 steps

Removing limescale is very simple: follow our 5-part step-by-step plan. It clearly explains how to best descale your Nespresso machine. You can use a special Nespresso descaling set to descale your coffee machine. Of course it is also possible to use a universal descaling agent.

Step 1: preparation Descaling Nespresso

To get your Nespresso machine limescale-free, a number of items must be prepared: 500 ml of water, Nespresso or universal descaler and a bowl to collect the water. Empty the drip tray and remove any empty cups from the machine.

Turn on the Nespresso machine and wait until the lights stop flashing. Fill the water reservoir with 500 ml of water and add the correct amount of descaler. How much descaler you need to add is stated on the packaging. Place the bowl under the Nespresso machine to collect the water.

Step 2: descale your Nespresso

Press both buttons of the machine simultaneously for 3 seconds. Once you have done this, the lights should start flashing. The Nespresso machine has now started the descaling program. Press the large cup of coffee (lungo) button to start flushing.

Step 3: restart the flushing process

Your coffee machine will continue rinsing until the water tank is empty. After this, you must refill the reservoir with 500 ml of water and the descaler. Empty the bowl you use to collect the water and place it back under the Nespresso machine. Start the rinsing process again by pressing the lungo button.

Step 4: Cleaning Nespresso

Remove the water tank from the machine, rinse it with clean water and refill it. Now you only use tap water. Empty the bowl you use to collect the water Replace both the reservoir and bowl and flush the machine again.

Step 5: disable descaling menu

Your Nespresso has been descaled and is completely clean again. To deactivate the descaling menu, press and hold the two buttons simultaneously for three seconds. You can now use your coffee machine normally again.

Your questions about descaling answered

My coffee tastes strange after descaling. How is that possible?
Sometimes your coffee tastes a bit bitter after descaling the Nespresso machine. If this is the case for you? Rinse your coffee maker completely again. There may be lime residue left behind or there may still be some descaling agent in the Nespresso machine.

Why is there limescale in my Nespresso?

Limescale is a result of hard water. If you do not have an anti-limescale system, your water may be too 'hard'. This means that it contains tiny lime particles. You cannot see these particles, but they do cause limescale. The particles remain as white deposits in your household appliances. To remove those deposits, you must descale the Nespresso. The harder your water is, the more often you will need to repeat this process. View the water hardness in your region.

How can I prevent limescale from remaining in my Nespresso?

Descaling your Nespresso is of course only a temporary solution. If you want to prevent limescale from forming, buying a magnetic descaler is the best solution. The Amfa4000® ensures that there is no longer any hard algonite, which you know as limestone. Sometimes some calcite forms, but these are much softer and hardly adhesive particles. The Amfa4000® anti-limescale system does not remove the minerals calcium and magnesium from the water, but changes the crystal structure so that they no longer precipitate. This means your equipment will not be damaged and your coffee machine will last a long time.
